Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission (MTCT) is the second major mode of spread of the virus in Uganda and is the main route by which children get infected.

This policy document has been developed for use by planners and managers who are involved in implementation of activities for prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) at both the national and district levels. It aims at streamlining and guiding the process of initiating and implementing PMTCT interventions in Uganda. This document is wide in scope, addressing PMTCT issues such as antiretroviral therapy, training, policy issues, infant feeding, support for mothers and infants and additional PMTCT interventions.
