This counseling tool is to be used by health professionals working in PMTCT sites for the purpose of counseling and demonstrating recommended infant feeding options.  

This job aid is part of a training package designed to train practicing HIV service providers in FP counseling and service provision for FP integration in HIV Counseling and Testing, PMTCT and ART services. The job aid serves as a quick reference for family planning options in regard to HIV-related treatments and conditions.

These fact sheets on HIV and pregnancy are intended especially for HIV-infected women who are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant. The fact sheets include information to help HIV-infected women stay healthy during pregnancy and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to their babies. The information in these fact sheets is based on the Recommendations for Use of Antiretroviral Drugs in Pregnant HIV-1-Infected Women for Maternal Health and Interventions to Reduce Perinatal HIV Transmission in the United States. 

With increased access to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy, and the resulting improvements in health, many clients with HIV are reconsidering their reproductive options — some are deciding whether to have children, and others are resuming sexual activity while wanting to avoid pregnancy. As a result, demand for contraception among clients with HIV — especially those on ARV therapy — has increased, and new integrated options for improving access to contraception are being considered.  

This is a reference tool for counsellors with answers to questions commonly asked by mothers and their families.

This tool is designed to help health workers counsel people living with HIV on sexual and reproductive choices and family planning. It also is meant to help people living with HIV make and carry out informed, healthy, and appropriate decisions about their sexual and reproductive lives.

The Support Tools were developed as a resource for: PMTCT healthcare workers--clinical (nurses, midwives, doctors) and non-clinical (HIV counsellors, peer or lay counsellors, and outreach workers PMTCT programme managers PMTCT trainers
