This brief is part of a series describing population, health and environment issues in distinct geographic areas in the Philippines. This region has one of the highest population growth rates and one of the smallest amounts of forest cover in the Philippines, the Central Visayas Region faces significant population pressure and environmental stress, especially for water supply and quality. The report highlights three initiatives built upon principles of collaboration that are successfully addressing some of these concerns, including the City Development Strategies Project, Integrated Population and Coastal Resource Management (IPOPCORM), and the Alternative Advocacy Project, the latter aimed increasing the knowledge of policymakers on demographic factors that affect food security.
