It is important to establish the necessary coordination with the institutions responsible for basic sanitation (municipios, civil defense, ministry of health, water and sewerage companies, and others).

It is essential that a rapid assessment of the situation be conducted to establish a sanitation assistance plan. Below is a breakdown of activities that must be implemented in the plan.

En esta guía se considera como "saneamiento" a todas las actividades involucradas en el manejo adecuado del abastecimiento de agua, eliminación de excretas y residuos sólidos.

Un sistema de saneamiento en albergues y campamentos debe considerar no sólo la aplicación de técnicas sencillas de ingeniería, sino también los factores sociales y culturales del lugar donde se hará la intervención, así como los costos.

Es importante establecer las coordinaciones necesarias con las instituciones de saneamiento básico (municipios, defensa civil, Ministerio de Salud, empresas de agua y alcantarillado y otros).

Es fundamental realizar una evaluación rápida de la situación para establecer el plan de asistencia en saneamiento. A continuación se detallan las actividades que se deben desarrollar en el mencionado plan.
