| Rodents are mammals of the order Rodentia, with rats and mice belonging to the suborder Myomorpha. Members of the Muridae family are the dominant species in every region of the world, due to their ability to adapt to and exploit new situations. Commensal rats and mice, that is those that live at the expense of humans, invade their dwellings, eat their food, upset their comfort, and frequently transmit diseases to them, belong to this family. Three species of commensal rodents are the most widely distributed: the Norwegian rat, Rattus norvegicus; the roof rat, Rattus rattus; and the common mouse, Mus musculus.
Se conoce como roedores a los mamíferos del orden Rodentia, entre los cuales las ratas y ratones pertenecen al suborden Myomorpha. Los miembros de la familia Muridae son las especies dominantes en cualquier región del mundo debido a su habilidad para adaptarse y explotar nuevas situaciones. Pertenecen a esta familia las ratas y ratones comensales, es decir aquellos que viven a expensas de los humanos, invaden sus viviendass, comen su comida, alteran su comodidad y con frecuencia le transmiten sus enfermedades. Tres especies de comensales son las de mayor distribución: la rata noruega , Rattus norvegicus; la rata de los techos, Rattus rattus; y el raton común, Mus musculus.
